The Death of a Persian Killer

Hidden in caves and pits lived the Afrits, demons of great size and loathsome
habit, who preyed on mortals with weapons of magic.

One such creature stole a maiden on the eve of her wedding and kept her just for his own amusement. He killed her horribly, first cutting of her hands and feet, then striking of her head. As a final act of cruelty, he changed her human
lover into an ape.

It took magic to defeat the power of the Afrit. A princess skilled in sorcery recognized the changed human an summoned the Afrit with chanted commands that he could not refuse. The princess and the demon fought with spells. They fought in shapes of lion, serpent, eagle, wolf, scorpion and vulture.

At last they fought as fire and calling aloud her god's name, the princess burned the Afrit to ashes.

The man was restored to his human form but no human could endure the
power of the magic fire.  Once the princess's battle was won, she expired in her own flame.
